Antique Glass Jewelry Boxes

I love these antique glass boxes! Been collecting them for years and always keeping my eyes on new finds. Thick beveled glass panels, gilded metal frames with textured patterns, tufted silk lining with cute buttons, and those tiny feet...

Vintage Saphiret Sapphirine Glass Cabochons

One of my best finds! These come in their original package with a color name Sapphirine. Flat backed, unfoiled and with frosted finish. Sappharine glass is a combination of brown with blue. How interesting, the hue of blue is inconsistent in these stones, from aqua to sapphire to almost purple?

Vintage Sapphirine Saphiret Glass Cabochons

So happy to find these for I've searched for Saphiret or Sapphirine glass for jewelry making. I'll probably use silver colored settings for these so the silver color metal will glow through the stone and present the color play of blue and brown!

Saphiret and Sappharine Glass Rhinestones

I've been collecting loose Saphiret and Sappharine glass for many years. There's something so special about the color shifting art glass.

From the Treasure Hunt: Vintage Beads and Rhinestones

Treasure hunting at CJS Sales was fabulous! I didn't know what to expect but before the trip I did go through all of my rhinestones so I would at least know what I already have. Traveling by plane was the reason I didn't plan to buy any beads and stick to the rhinestones (you may laugh here). In honor of this ridiculous thought I would like to start revealing my treasures from err... beads. Rhinestones come in another post.

Dusty beads on red cotton string, doesn't seem to be much...
When you wipe of the dust you see glossy glass beads. These are
antique hollow glass beads that were used in embroidering
mourning dresses.

Very good quality nailhead beads in square shape. These could be
from French or Czechoslovakia and are probably Victorian.
Bronze Czech FP (firepolished) beads. Not vintage nor rare
but I just couldn't leave them. I use these beads very often
so it was very practical choice.
Vintage bronze seedbeads in tube shape. Like I said
this color is so easy to use in my jewelry.
Vintage sew-on beads from frosted glass. These are actually
settings for rhinestones and I've wanted one of these for so long time!
Lucky me!
Matte olive green glass pearls. Probably new but I got these
because I usually use very classical pearl colors (cream, white
and grey). So this is me pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
OK. I know that these are not beads. These are cabochons and are
so-called half-drilled. It means the hole doesn't go all the way through
and is meant for gluing (for button type earring with earring post).
This color is somehow very familiar...

Now, why would I buy these really rough-looking beads?
First is the color that doesn't turn grey in artificial light and second...
I have a soft spot for Prosser beads. If you want to know
what these are, please read my post about Prosser beads.
Vintage English cut glass beads from Czechoslovakia.
Crystal goes with everything and I love the English cut bead shape!
Vintage glass pearls from Japan. Lovely hues don't you think?
Now I'm thinking I should have taken more of these...
Turquoise green, my love! New seedbeads in tiny size
that I just couldn't pass because I knew I would regret it.
2,5mm Czech glass beads in grey color. Because grey
matches easily with other colors and I love the small size.

Ehtekivid tulevad eraldi postituses.

Väike ülevaade piltide allkirjadest ka eesti keeles: Kaks esimest pilti kujutavad Viktooria ajastu klaashelmeid, mis on seest õõnsad. Õõnsaid helmeid kasutati rõivaste tikkimisel; Samast ajast ja eesmärgil kasutati ka neid ruudukujulisi musti "nailhead" helmeid; Pronksjad lihvitud helmed ei ole vanad ega haruldased, aga on sellised, mida olen juba ehetes kasutanud ja ei saanud lihtsalt käest enam ära panna; Suur viht pronksjaid tuubikujulisi seemnehelmeid on tore leid! Sellised lähevad mul ehetes kindlasti käiku; See beežikas nätsakas pildil on viht matist klaasist tikkimiseks mõeldud "sew-on" helmed ja ma olen neid väga-väga kaua tahtnud. Need on tegelikult klaasist pesad kristallidele; Oliivrohelised matid pärlid on minu katse kasutada pärleid toonides, mis pole minu jaoks tavapärane; Roosad kettakesed pole tegelikult helmed, vaid ehtekivid, millel on auk osaliselt. Nende värv on mulle kahtlaselt tuttav... ; Sirelilillad helmed, üsna robustse välimusega, võlusid mu ära oma värvitooniga (mis tehisvalguses ei muutu) ning sellega, et tegu on Prosser helmestega; Kristallivärvi Tšehhi klaashelmestel on armas "English cut" lihv, pealegi sobib kristall ju kõigi värvidega; Vintage klaaspärlid Jaapanist (minu turvatsooni värvides); Türkiisrohelised tillukesed seemnehelmed, polegi ammu türkiisrohelist kasutanud... ; 2,5mm hallid Tšehhi klaashelmed, sest hall sobib paljude värvidega ja väike suurus lubab kasutada väiksel pinnal.

Treasure Hunt: French Prosser Beads

Hello again! I'm showing one of the finds in my treasure hunt - and hope you can feel the excitement when I made these photos :P

Parcel from France
Peeling off the paper...
Cardboard box reveals tissue paper
Lots of tissue paper carefully wrapped
around the treasure.
Unwrapping the tissue paper you can see
plastic bags with boxes
These are Prosser beads in their original boxes.
Boxes are falling apart and beads are pushing through
the the corners where the cardboard is worn thin.

Tere taas!

Vintage French Pearls from Colorful Glass

Look at these colorful vintage pearls that I got from France! This is a great find from one of my treasure hunts! Finding large handmade pearls is pretty rare and a matching set of different size beads makes me feel even more lucky! What I find fascinating about these is that the beads were made from colorful glass (blue, red, green, pink) and then covered with pearl coating. So the glass color is shining through the pearl coating turning it into blue pearl, red pearl etc. The oval and pinched shaped pearls were handmade - their shape and size vary a bit.

I got these from the same vendor as the Louis Rousselet pearls and components. So it's possible that these pearls were also made in his workshops. And further more, some of the oval pearls have one end of the hole sealed with pearl coating meaning that the pearls were dipped one by one into pearl solution and were dried separately. Perhaps like the high quality pearls by Simon & Simon.

The colorful glass is best visible near the holes of the pearls.

Here are the glass pearls with red glass core with small pressed
oval pearls. The small oval pearls I got from another French
vendor couple years back. These match perfectly!

Light going through the glass brings out the intense red color.
It also seems that the pearl coating is uneven.

Antique Pocket Watch Box with Glass Lid

Here's that antique box I showed in last post about rhinestone brooch. I always keep searching antique boxes. I know that I already have a bunch but... Just look at it! Isn't it cute?! It has a lid with beveled glass and nice luxurious red silk lining. Gorgeous woman face embossed with pretty scrolls and adornments.

Siin on rohkem pilte sellest antiiksest karbist, mida näitasin eelmises postituses ehtekividega prossist. Mul käib helmeste otsimisel alati paralleelselt karbiotsing. Ma tean, et mul neid juba on... Agga vaata kui armas see on?! Sellel on kaas lihvitud äärega klaasist ja ilus luksuslik punasest siidist sisu. Kaunis naisenägu koos erinevate ilustustega pressitud metalli sisse.

Vintage Swarovski Romance en Gris Rhinestones

Want to see what I found on one of my treasure hunts? This is awesome! Years ago I got these rhinestone in rare color of Romance en Bleu. Now I came across a box of rhinestones in color of - Romance en Gris!
As the name suggests the rhinestones main color is grey. Holding the rhinestone in different angles they reveal shades of bluish. Many facets of the stones - and there are many! - catch the light and make stones look like they're always moving.
The package of Swarovski Romance en Gris rhinestones
have seen better days, don't you think?

The vintage rhinestones are in perfect shape. The color of
Romance en Gris
is such a beautiful statement
of the color grey

Aastaid tagasi õnnestus mul saada ehtekive, mille nimi on Romance en Bleu. Nüüd on mul karbike kividega, mille nimi on - Romance en Gris!

Vintage Green Handmade Beads from Japan

In beautiful green color as semiprecious stone jade. I found these vintage beads that were handmade in Japan from US. I was secretly hoping that these will match with my other green glass beads. Bigger round ones were part of my jewelry collection with detailed metal oak leaves and acorns. Longer textured beads were bought ages ago but never used. And yes, it's a perfect match!

I'm planning to pair this green color with natural creamy pearl and make a long necklace :) This sort of green is not everybody's favorite. What about you, you like this green or your green is something different?

Ilus roheline värv nagu poolvääriskivil jadeiidil. Leidsin need ilusad Jaapani käsitsivalmistatud helmed ühelt USA edasimüüjalt. Ma salaja lootsin, et ehk sobivad need kokku juba varem ostetud helmestega. Suuremaid ümmargusi helmeid olen kasutanud tillukeste tammelehte kollektsioonis. Suured piklikud helmed on ammu ostetud, kuid kasutust pole leidnud. Ja tõesti, tegu on ideaalse sobivusega!
Plaanis on see roheline kokku panna naturaalse kreemja pärliga ning valmistada üks pikk kaelakee :) Selline roheline pole vist kõigi lemmik. Kuidas on sinuga, kas selline meeldib, või on sinu roheline mingit teist tooni?

Treasure Hunt: Vintage Glass Pearls from France

When I first saw these pearls I knew I had to have them. It was an intuition, knowing that these were more than just jewelry supplies. Just look at these! Gorgeous pearlescent coating and baroque shape, with each looking a bit different. Yep, these must be handmade.

Temporarily strung glass pearls in different shades and shapes.
I got some other jewelry components as well that will
help me to identify the origin of these pearls.

Lihtsalt vaata! Imekaunis pärlikiht ja barokne pind, iga helmes pisut erineva kujuga. Jep, need on käsitsi tehtud.

Treasure Hunt - Vintage Ink Well

Here's a selection of photos I made from the ink well. I love these kind of pretty little things!

I was searching for old brass items to use when photographing jewelry (isn't it a great excuse for buying pretty things?!) and was scrolling through vintage and antique picture frames. In some strange reason I saw a vintage brass ink well that was with absolutely over the top decorations and a jaw-dropping price. Since that ink well had this glorious embellishments that none of my jewelry could compete (and the price that was out of my world) I thought that it might be a great idea to search what kind of ink wells are out there. And found this!

This vintage ink well has romantic decoration and is made of brass.
On the ink well sits a cute brass bird like on its nest!

See this? This porcelain insert is original and is meant to contain ink.

This photo shows what it looks from under.

Siin on valik fotosid tindipotist.
