Black Jewelry from Antique Beads

I got those black beads from treasure hunting in New York. What makes these round beads special is that they are antique hollow glass beads. Glass hollow beads were used before plastic was invented and it could offer the vast array of adorning materials to the garment industry. Due to light weight it was possible to sew lots of hollow glass beads on beautiful dresses and jackets and purses etc.

I matched the hollow glass beads with square shaped French jet nailhead beads and new seed beads (I really need to get some antique black seed beads!). In the black brooch dangles I used vintage black beads (I got from France) that are not hollow because hollow ones are fragile and need to be tucked between bigger beads for safety. These dangle earrings and tassel brooch can be either worn separately or as a set.

Black brooch got long beaded dangles that were inspired
by Victorian dress appliques. Each dangle is finished off with old
Prosser bead in oval shape.

Round hollow glass beads are tucked safely between higher
domed square shaped beads. This will protect the fragile hollow
glass beads in this brooch.

Need musta värvi antiiksed helmed sain ma New Yorgist. Ümmargused helmed teeb eriliseks see, et need on nö. puhutud, seest õõnsad. Õõnsad klaashelmed olid kasutusel enne plastmassi tulekut, mis võimaldas toota suures valikus erinevaid kaunistusi rõivatööstusele. Kuna õõnes klaas oli kergem, kui nö. täis-klaasist helmed, siis sai neid rõivastele rohkem õmmelda.

Ma panin õõnsad helmed kokku ruudukujuliste nailhead helmeste ja uute seemnehelmestega (ma tõesti peaksin hankima endale musti antiikseid seemnehelmeid!). Prossi ripatsites kasutasin täis-klaasist ümmargusi helmeid (mis sain Prantsusmaalt), kuna õõnsad on liialt õrnad. Neid kõrvarõngaid ja prossi võib edukalt kanda nii eraldi kui ka komplektina.

transparent Czech beads in warmer shade of grey,

French glass rhinestones, these vintage stones are pressed and
compared to machine cut Swarovski rhinestones look like glowing little lights.

Adding some vintage and new glass pearls all in different shades

silver, hues of grey - warm to cold, transparent versus

Custom Made Hair Accessories

The inspiration to this custom made hair clip came from those gorgeous antique gowns made of sheer lace with intricate embellishments of tiny glass beads. Most of the beads are actually from the same period of time the dresses that inspired me - 1880-1930s.

Black glass beads have surface finish in different colors like blue, green and hematite. So even though the color scheme is dark the beads create a playful and sparkly look that catches the eye!

This hair clip is quite wide and it allowed me to add many
beaded motifs on the copper filigree plate
that looks like a piece of lace.

Selle tellimustööna valminud juukseklambri inspiratsiooniks said need antiiksed romantilised vanad kleidid, mis on valmistatud õhkõrnast pitsist ning kaetud tillukeste klaashelmestega. Enamik siin kasutatud helmestest ongi pärit samast ajast - 1880-1930ndatest.

Mustast klaasist helmestel on erinevat tooni viimistlus nagu metallik sinine, roheline ja hematiit.  Nii et, hoolimata tumadast värvigammast tekitavad helmed rõõmsa ja sädeleva kaunistuse, mis torkab silma!

Black Necklace with Vintage Jet Nailhead Beads

Long necklace with black nailhead beads in the centerpiece. I imagine wearing it with sheer black blouse. Would look great going to a party with it but it's easy to celebrate every day with a necklace like this :)

The necklace measures 74cm long with centerpiece 8cm.

Vintage Black Beads

Here are some of my vintage beads in black color. It's amazing how many different sizes does the nailhead beads come! Take a look:

These tiny nailhead beads was a true find! I got these from
Germany. Really tiny measuring appr. 3mm these beads are flat,
have three tips and facets that reflect the light!

This photo gives is a great way to compare
the different size of nailhead beads.

Navette shaped nailhead beads have parallel holes and
are strung on bright red thread. Some bead distributors say
that black Czechoslovakia beads that were strung on dyed
thread were produced in the turn of the 19th and 20th century.

And these beads are Prosser beads! The small faceted ones in front
are actually pressed from paste and fired! The mold already
had the facets.

Vintage Pink Glass Beads

Selection of vintage glass beads in color of precious pink. Looks yummi! I plan to make some earrings from these.

I picked out these gorgeous pink beads! Nailhead beads and drop
beads are in dishes, hollow glass beads and so called mercury beads
are temporarily strung on original hanks.

Vintage faceted crystal glass drops from Czechoslovakia.
Color is Rosalin. And look at these coin shaped hollow beads
showing off their frosted look! I've used these in long earrings.

and pink metallic color. I've used these once before in this brooch.

Sweet Pink Brooch with Vintage Pearls and Nailhead Beads

It took awhile until I came up with an idea for these vintage pink beads. I added some bronze metallic colored seed-beads and of-course, Swarovski crystals. The brooch has a round shape, the outer circle has unique leaf-shaped nailhead-beads with round pearls and Swarovski crystal rhinestones while the inner circle has thin rice-shaped peads that create a delicate flower. There are a row of small pearl dangles that add movement. This brooch can also be worn as a pendant.

 I used rare leaf-shaped nailhead beads that were probably made in Czechoslovakia.

A long row of glass pearl dangles at the bottom of the brooch add movements.

Võttis aega, mis võttis, aga lõpuks tuli idee, mida nende vintage helmestega teha. Ma lisasin pronksivärvi seemnehelmeid ning loomulikult Swarovski kristalle. Pross on ümmarguse kujuga, välisringis on haruldase lehekujuga "nailhead"-helmed ümmarguste pärlite ja Swarovski kristalliklaasist ehtekividega, siseringis moodustavad peenikesed riisikujulised pärlid õrna lille. Prossil on rivi väikesed pärli-ripatseid, mis lisab liikumist. Seda prossi saab kanda ka ripatsina.

Blue & Red

Materials: red Swarovski Siam crystals (art. 4470 and 1100); vintage handmade rice glass pearls from Japan, Czech pearls and seed-beads; vintage blue nailhead beads from Czechoslovakia; old blue Prosser beads in two sizes made in Briare, France.

Materjalid: Swarovski punased kristallid Siam (art. 4470 ja 1100); vintage käsitsivalmistatud piklikud pärlid Jaapanist, Tšehhi pärlid ja seemnehelmed; punased ümmargused Tšehhi klaashelmed; vintage sinised nailhead helmed Tšehhoslovakkiast; kahes suuruses vanad sinised Prosser helmed Briare tehasest Prantsusmaalt.

Tassel and Brooch

I've usually used ~5mm beads to make tassels so far (like in coral, pink and red necklaces). Since the blue beads I'm working on right now doesn't have that size I tried to use smaller sized beads instead. I really like the outcome - beaded strings drape nicely and swing with every movement. In this tassel there are two times more bead chains than the previous ones. These kind of tassels will go to the necklaces I'm planning to make and I also would like to make one in lariat style.

On second photo there is a finished brooch. Beautiful Swarovski crystal in the center in color Siam. Also the small rhinestones are Swarovski.

Siiani olen teinud selliseid ripatseid ~5mm helmestest (näiteks korallivärvi, roosas ja punastes kaelakeedes). Kuna nende siniste helmeste puhul, millega praegu töötan, sellist suurust polnud, siis proovisin kasutada väiksemaid. Tulemus on äge - helmeread drapeeruvad raskelt ja kiiguvad iga liigutuse peale kaasa. Helmekette on siin kaks korda rohkem kui varem. Sellised ripatsid lähevad kaelakeedesse ja plaan on teha üks nn. lasso-tüüpi kaelakee.

Alumisel pildil on ümmargune pross. Keskel on ilus Swarovski kristall Siam värvi. Ka väikesed punased kristallid on Swarovski ehtekivid.

Starting with Jewelry Project

This is the beginning of new jewellery set or even a collection. Inspiration came from the beads as it traditionally happens. Here are some vintage Prosser beads from France, bigger ones are strung on linen thread and bound into bundle, smaller ones came loose. Those dark blue beads are actually in very similar color, bigger ones have a luster finish and smaller ones, well, are just dusty.
The beads are accompanied in perfection by red Siam Swarovski rhinestones! Lapis lazuli imitation cabochons were made in Czechoslovakia. Beautiful bronze metallic seed beads were made in Japan. On the second photo there are blue nailhead beads (used in garment industry in the old days) that match in color also!

Siit saab alguse uus ehete komplekt või kollektsioon. Inspiratsioon tuli, nagu tavaks juba saanud, helmestelt. Siin on vintage Prosser-tüüpi helmed Prantsusmaalt, suuremad on lükitud linasele niidile ja seotud tugevaks puntraks, väiksemad tulid lahtiselt. Need tumesinised helmed on tegelikult üpriski sama värvi, lihtsalt suurematel on läige lisatud ja väiksemad, noh, on lihtsalt tolmused.
Sinna kõrvale sobivad punased Swarovski kristallid (Siam) suurepäraselt! Tšehhoslovakkias valmistatud klaaskivid imiteerivad vääriskivi lapis lazuli. Pronksjat metallivärvi seemnehelmed on valmistatud Jaapanis. Teisel pildil on vintage klaashelmed, mida vanasti kasutati rõivaste kaunistamisel. Ka see sinine sobib teistega suurepäraselt!

Purple Set

Valmis komplekt: pikk kee, pross, rippuvad kõrvarõngad, post-kõrvarõngad, mobiiliripats. Vähe sellest, et keed saab kanda nii kaelakee kui ka käeketina, saab siin palju omavahel kombineerida. Mobiiliripatsit saab lisada prossile või kaelakeele. Prossi omakorda kaelakeele. Kaelakeed saab kanda nii ühe- kui kahekordselt.

Finished set: long beaded chain, dangle earrings, post earrings, brooch, cell phone charm. This beaded chain can be worn as necklace or wrapped bracelet and there's so much more that can be combined. Cell phone charm can be added to the brooch or necklace. Brooch can be added also to the necklace. Necklace can be worn as double or single row.

Vintage Nailhead Beads

Esimesel pildil hoian käes Tšehhis valmistatud nailhead helmeste vihti. See pidi koosnema neljast väiksemast vihust, kuid harutamisel selgus, et kõik helmed on ühel niidil. Helmeste läbimõõt on umbes 3mm.

On the first photo I'm holding a hank of Czech nailhead beads. It should have four smaller hanks but when I started to take beads off I realized the beads are all on one strand. The diameter of a bead is approximately 3mm.
