Sometimes I just like to appreciate the sparkle that rhinestones bring! And the inspiration! Specially vintage rhinestones. There's something about the old packages and envelopes that shield the crystal glass... All the cuts and colors, many that are not made anymore.

Vintage Style Hair Pin Parade

I practice a lot and every time I come up with a new design or color combination I make an example piece so I can see if it works with whatever I'm at. Not everything make it to bigger jewelry pieces so in time I'll gather a sum of motifs that start to pile up. My working table gets messy very quickly and so I need to find a place for them.

So does need a place any rhinestone or bead that is left on my table. Using them in whatever design I can come up with will add more motifs that need their place. The easiest way to use these odd motifs is in hair pins - no need of pairs like in earrings.

I grouped the hair pins by color: blue rhinestone hair pins, red rhinestone hair pins, assorted green pink purple and the rest went into assorted colors. All of the hair pins are possible to remake in similar design, so if there's something sold and you want to buy just let me know.

Sometimes it happens that the whole process starts to move backwards and the motif from leftover rhinestones and beads will trigger a new piece of jewelry.

I really liked the motif with clear vintage square rhinestone, cream pearls and ivory glass beads. And so I made a Pearl bracelet with vintage rhinestones. This motif design became one of my favorite one. It's so odd when things turn out this way :)

Vintage Style Tiara with Topaz Yellow

This vintage style tiara with topaz yellow is historically inspired and is a great addition to both wedding and historical reenactment.

Bridal Hair comb with Rhinestones and Pearls

Making jewellery for bridal occasion is such a treat! For the wedding I can make something festive, sweet and sparkly with abundant of vintage glass pearls... Throughout my jewellery making there has been one special hair comb that proved to be popular among the brides. The basic design is simple - a flower motif with two wired branches on both sides. 

Bridal hair comb reinvented!

Vintage jewellery materials are always limited, so every now and then I need to reinvent the design. This time I added vintage bronze colored glass beads I got from France to the bridal hair comb. Even though so tiny they have been faceted!

New addition to these bridal hair comb design
is the bronze colored tiny beads that add a bit of glamour.

Materials in this bridal hair comb are:
*vintage Swarovski rhinestones
*vintage handmade glass pearls, made in Japan
*vintage small glass pearls I got from France
*vintage bronze colored tiny faceted beads I got from France
*new copper plated metal components

Rhinestone Headpiece in Vintage Style

This handmade rhinestone headpiece is for making a statement! Sparkly crystal rhinestones are all set one by one into settings and vintage glass pearls wired carefully onto the metal filigrees. Something truly feminine and floral to adorn yourself in special occasions like wedding, birthday or graduation! Take a look of the progress in photos:

First step was to set all the rhinestones into settings. Then
attaching set rhinestones and vintage glass pearls onto the filigrees.

I used memorywire for the base - it holds the round shape and is
lightweight. After making the base I covered it with florist tape.

The headpiece base is finished with supportive filigree band
and signature. All I need to do now is to attach all the
pretty pieces to the supportive filigree band.

Voilaa! Headpiece is finished and matching laces added.

Lots of sparkling rhinestones and vintage glass pearls
are mixed with floral metal components.

Black Jewelry from Antique Beads

I got those black beads from treasure hunting in New York. What makes these round beads special is that they are antique hollow glass beads. Glass hollow beads were used before plastic was invented and it could offer the vast array of adorning materials to the garment industry. Due to light weight it was possible to sew lots of hollow glass beads on beautiful dresses and jackets and purses etc.

I matched the hollow glass beads with square shaped French jet nailhead beads and new seed beads (I really need to get some antique black seed beads!). In the black brooch dangles I used vintage black beads (I got from France) that are not hollow because hollow ones are fragile and need to be tucked between bigger beads for safety. These dangle earrings and tassel brooch can be either worn separately or as a set.

Black brooch got long beaded dangles that were inspired
by Victorian dress appliques. Each dangle is finished off with old
Prosser bead in oval shape.

Round hollow glass beads are tucked safely between higher
domed square shaped beads. This will protect the fragile hollow
glass beads in this brooch.

Black jewelry from antique beads. Black jewelry can easily be

Need musta värvi antiiksed helmed sain ma New Yorgist. Ümmargused helmed teeb eriliseks see, et need on nö. puhutud, seest õõnsad. Õõnsad klaashelmed olid kasutusel enne plastmassi tulekut, mis võimaldas toota suures valikus erinevaid kaunistusi rõivatööstusele. Kuna õõnes klaas oli kergem, kui nö. täis-klaasist helmed, siis sai neid rõivastele rohkem õmmelda.

Ma panin õõnsad helmed kokku ruudukujuliste nailhead helmeste ja uute seemnehelmestega (ma tõesti peaksin hankima endale musti antiikseid seemnehelmeid!). Prossi ripatsites kasutasin täis-klaasist ümmargusi helmeid (mis sain Prantsusmaalt), kuna õõnsad on liialt õrnad. Neid kõrvarõngaid ja prossi võib edukalt kanda nii eraldi kui ka komplektina.

Grey Bridesmaid Hair Comb

I recently got an order for grey bridesmaid hair comb. And it's absolutely awesome because the usual response for people when hearing about grey jewelry is lifting an eyebrow and asking: "Grey? Really? Who would want grey jewelry?".

But it is such a great color, especially for bridesmaids! Bridesmaids don't always have to be dressed into baby pink or blue. There is a more mature option when choosing smoky light grey. It could be with a hint of blue or purple. Bridesmaid dress like that would later be used as a classy evening dress!

Materials for grey bridesmaid hair comb:
vintage Swarovski crystal beads in Black Diamond, vintage
French oval glass pearls, antique French Prosser beads,
vintage red English-cut beads from Czechoslovakia,
vintage handmade tiny glass pearls from Japan
and vintage crystal rhinestones in Black Diamond and Crystal.

The branches from glass pearls and beads are finished. Crystal
rhinestones are set and the center flower motif is about to be made.

Here is the center flower motif almost finished. Vintage
handmade glass pearls from Japan are surrounding five
crystal rhinestones in color of Black Diamond.

Grey bridesmaid hair comb can be worn with
smoky grey bridesmaid dress for more mature look.

Hiljuti sain tellimuse halli värvi pruutneitsi juuksekammile. Ja see on supervahva, sest halli värvi puhul on reaktsiooniks pigem jahedalt nentimine: "Hall? Kas tõesti? Kes küll tahab halli värvi ehteid?".

Aga sellel värvil on tohutult potensiaali, eriti just pruutneitside juures! Pruutneitsid ei pea alati olema riietatud beebi roosasse või helesinisesse.  On olemas küpsem variant halli näol. Ja hallil kleidil võib olla nii sinakas toon kui ka näiteks lilla toon. Ja selline kleit võib hiljem kandjat teenida kui pidulik õhtukleit!

Custom Made Hair Accessories

The inspiration to this custom made hair clip came from those gorgeous antique gowns made of sheer lace with intricate embellishments of tiny glass beads. Most of the beads are actually from the same period of time the dresses that inspired me - 1880-1930s.

Black glass beads have surface finish in different colors like blue, green and hematite. So even though the color scheme is dark the beads create a playful and sparkly look that catches the eye!

This hair clip is quite wide and it allowed me to add many
beaded motifs on the copper filigree plate
that looks like a piece of lace.

Woodland Inspired Wedding Accessories

As promised! Here is an option for wedding accessories with brown wax tape. It gives the items a kind of woodland feel, don't you think? With a bit vintage edge.

There are some color options available also. Most of the glass beads used here are cream-colored and white. Now the white can be replaced with pastel blue, pastel pink or pastel yellow. Imagine the cream pearls with some pastel color popping up between the branches. Oh so delicate! These are the colors I managed to hunt down when searching for those cute vintage glass leaves! As the vintage leaves are limited, so are the jewelry.

I wanted to create something utterly feminine and romantic. And bridal jewelry seems the best to use with that in mind. There are no rhinestones, no crystals... Only pearls and lots of them! Little silver lined seedbeads add a modest sparkle. Very fluffy, romantic and feminine.
